Sherrilyn Silver
Mrs. Silver represented the kind of first-generation student success many students and families hope for. Her journey began in the rural town of Ruther Glen, Virginia.

Sherrilyn received a partial scholarship to attend a historically Black colleges and universities (HBCUs). Sherrilyn borrowed student loans and on one occasion she recalled missing a financial aid deadline. She asked her father, who worked as a skycap at Reagan National Airport, for financial support to cover the balance. Sherrilyn graduated with a degree in accounting and she met her husband, Ezel while working for the federal government in Washington, DC.

In honor of their beloved mother, Dr. Tisa Silver Canady and Mrs. Kia Silver Hodge have graciously sponsored the very first Miss High School USA Diamond Award, named The Sherrilyn Silver.
